GMAT Sentence Correction Section

GMAT exam what is essential to take for anyone who is interested in attending a reputable business school. GMAT score ranges between 200 and 800, a higher score naturally improves your chances of getting admission in the business school of your choice. As this is one of the most standardize test, practice and preparations are the keys of getting good score. You should start your preparation for the GMAT test at least four months before to taking the exam. As this test really need a lot of practice for each section of the test. This test contains three sections in total and total time allowed is 210 minutes.

This test is divided in to Analytical Writing, Quantitative Section and Verbal Section, where Verbal section has further three sections, from what Sentence Correction is one of them. Unlike GMAT Critical Reasoning and Reading Comprehension what also comes under Verbal Section, what can also be seen in other Entrance exams, Where GMAT Sentence Correction is very unique. In this section questions are asked to check your ability how you understand the given content, and it tests your capability how clearly you identify the given sentences. In GMAT Verbal review section, you need to attempt a total of 14 or 15 questions, including Critical Reasoning questions and Reading Comprehension sections.

Sentence correction questions are those what are added to test your skills and  knowledge of English grammar and idioms. This type of question are not much difficult to answer but they really needs study and practice. How to answer these questions correctly, you can use the following tricks with your study and practice :-

To answer these questions you need to read the choices and pick the one that you think suited the best, Most of the times sentences are very confusing, and most of the questions in this test are more than one grammar point. So you need to follow a systematic approach:

  1. At first you need to read the sentence carefully
  2. Now try to find out an error in the given sentence.
  3. If you can spot an error, eliminate the other options that contain the same error which will remove the two or three choices.
  4. Now analyze the rest options to find the second error and try to fix that.
  5. If you are not able find an error consider previous option.
  6. After selecting the final option read the whole sentence with that option.

The correct answer selected by you should have the following features :-

  1. It should not change the meaning of the given sentence.
  2. Should be free from any type of grammatical mistakes
  3. Sentence structure should be in the accurate form.
  4. Should be without diction errors

Some times it seems sentence correction is the easiest part of the test. Where some of the questions are very  tricky and it is often hard to choose between two very close choices. Preparation and practicing the questions is an important part of making understanding of the rules of grammar strong and mastering GMAT preparation.
